More about the Brady Edition While the full-size edition of "The Brown And The Green" has been painstakingly crafted to match the original,
David has altered this version to suggest the iconic photography of Matthew Brady. He converted the final production scan
in Photoshop, using multiple filters and effects to simulate the high-contrast, grainy look of 19th-century photography. Each
area of the painting had to be isolated and treated separately; a simple sepia conversion of the original would have produced
flat, indistinguishable shapes since the colors that provided definition were in many cases of the same value or “shade.”
When converting to an essentially monotone version, visual distinction must be created by contrast rather than color. In addition,
David “antiqued” the image to suggest aging and mishandling, also adding the traditional white photo border with
smudges and discolorations.
David’s giclee prints are professionally produced by leading fine-art printmaker
Garry McElwee. Giclee prints are produced one-at-a-time using archival inks through a process that is much more time-consuming
than traditional four-color offset “printing press” lithography.
About the paper: Hahnemuhle Photo
Rag (308 gm) is a bright white, smooth-finish 100% cotton calendared rag paper that is acid free with a neutral pH. Its coating
also offers a very high level of water resistance. All prints are treated for UV protection.
